    my observation is that thermally stripped wire provides a more occlusive seal at the wire end than mechanically stripped wire, do you dispute my observation? You are welcome to deny my assertion with your own observation, as always!

    and PVC/nylon is, by definition, a composite insulation, like polyimide/PTFE, right?

      no thermal stripping is great. I was merely replying to your comment about aerospace usage. Sorry, I thought that you were implying that there was something inherently wrong with teflon insulation.

      I did some more research and it seems like it's a miracle that planes don't explode all the time.

        it seems that insulation "creep" is a primary concern with pure PTFE, as its quite soft, and there is also a concern for the toxicity of combustion products for all plastics used in enclosed spaces (like space capsules!)

        2 part insulations seem to help with these issues in aerospace; it is a thorny thicket of practices/regulations, but I tried not to make anything up (which I sometimes do!)
