  • Ashdown Peacemaker 40 troubles

    Hi all,

I've got an Ashdown Peacemaker 40 that's got 4 EL84's for output tubes which are surface mounted on the PC board. Long story short, there is no cooling fan and the tubes are shrouded by the chassis with no cooling holes. So the tube sockets have totally melted, discoloring the board in the process. My dilemma, do I replace the surface mounted tube sockets and provide for better cooling or do I make a remote tube mount and run wires to the board? What do you guys think?

By the way does anybody know where I can find a schematic for this amp?

"do I replace the surface mounted tube sockets and provide for better cooling or do I make a remote tube mount and run wires to the board?"

Well its hard to tell without looking at it ..I suppose I would replace the tube sockets with ceramic ones
      like this
      9-Pin Ceramic PCB-Mount Sockets
      or from this Auzzie site
EVATCO tube sockets, capacitors, anode caps and tube boxes

search for- Ceramic 9 pin pcb mounting tube socket

and try to improve air circulation

Although the chassis mount may be a better option it may make the amp difficult to service later on.
I suppose its up to your tolerance of the degree of difficulty to implement vs the improvement the modification makes to the longevity of the amp.

Thanks OC Disorder, I have some sockets like that. I suppose I could mount those on the board and loop wires over to the soldering pads. Also, thanks for the schematics.
