  • Crate GX15R amp Reverb volume working, Clean is not, worth fixing?

My daughter just picked up this amp at a thrift shop - I just downloaded the schematic and will study it but I am assuming it is probably a blown amp, or maybe the pot. Any hints and is it worth fixing??? Thanks for the advice!

Welcome to the place. I'm not sure I understand what your problem is. The main volume control doesn't work but the reverb depth control does?

If the volume control doesn't work it could be a bad pot, but it could also be a bad connection on the circuit board.

As to whether or not it is worth fixing the amp, if the pot is bad it might cost a few dollars for a new pot and maybe an hour of time if you have basic mechanical and soldering skills. So you have to figure that one out.

If O/D channel passes signal but the clean does not then your only culprits can be either

      a) the volume pot of the clean channel
      b) the series resistor between volume pot's wiper and the DPDT channel selector switch or
      c) the DPDT channel selector switch.

      There's really no other options...

It could be a simple matter of a failed solder joint, corroded contact, or - in worst case - a broken component that must be fixed. In either case it should be a pretty easy fix if you're swift with fixing stuff on circuit boards.
