  • Nomad 45 Switching Problems

I have a Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 that is experiencing switching problems. When playing through channel 3 with the solo switch engaged, the solo switch will cut out intermittently. Ran the amp for several minutes with channel 3 and the solo switch engaged with no cutting out. When I walked up and touched the guitar strings, I heard a pop and then the solo switch cut out. Seems like the static electricity generated when I walk on the carpet and touch the guitar is causing the solo switch to cut out. Cleaned all of the jacks (send, return, recording out, footswitch, etc) with contact cleaner and am still getting this problem. Searched this and other forums and have not found anyone who has experienced this problem. I have not been able to recreate this problem using channels 1 and 2 though. I am suspecting the footswitch and am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to fix this.

    Thanks,

    Dan

If the problem is in the solo circuit, then it shouldn't care what channel is being used. So channel 1 or 2 should give the same problem, especially if it's a footswitch problem. Could be if you keep trying, you will get the same problem on ch.1 or 2. Maybe try wiggling the footswitch connections while trying.
When you say it cuts out, do you mean cuts back to the regular setting (without solo boost) or cuts right out?

I don't understand what you are saying, when the problem occurs the solo mode turns itself off? Does hitting the switch turn the mode back on again? Have you tried cleaning the switch and the footswitch jack?

        Do you have a schematic?

Sorry about the multiple posts! I tried deleting the 2nd duplicate and before I knew it, I had 2 more. Anyway, after the solo mode cuts out, hitting the switch turns it back on. I went back and re-cleaned the footswitch jacks with deoxit and have been running the amp for a while with no problems, even when I zap the guitar with static electricity. I am guessing that there might have been a bit of corrosion in the din jacks and just a little jolt of static, caused it to turn off the solo mode. Strangely enough it only happened when it was on channel 3. Will run the amp a couple of more hours to see if the 2nd cleaning did the trick. Here is the link for the schematic for reference: http://www.el34world.com/charts/Sche...ie_nomad45.pdf

          Thanks,

I can tell you from my own experience, change the switch OR keep a can of deoxit with you at gigs. My Rectoverb did this constantly until I was lucky enought to find a Mesa switch in the Guitar Center repair shop that had been left behind by a customer. They sold it to me and I changed out the switch.
