  • Buzzing noise only when I play a D note.

I have an old brown Fender Super, 6GA4. The filter caps are reasonably new, the electrolytics have been replaced as well as the plate resistors. The preamp tubes are new. It makes a raspy buzz when I play a D note. Any suggestions where to start looking for the source?

    Andrew.

It could be speaker related, tube related, failing part or a bad solder joint. You need to try and isolate the problem source as to being mechanical or electrical.

Try a different speaker, try different tubes and try chopsticking the board for loose parts/connections.

Is the problem volume sensitive? Do any of the controls affect the sound or intensity of the problem? Also, try the amp into an external speaker cabinet to rule out mechanical vibration.

Oh c'mon Chuck, link him to your recent thread on a very similar topic. Don't be shy.

Enzo... If I ever get to your house I'm going to head for the can right after you've been in there. Then, if you didn't flush, I'll gather up you leavings and show all your aquaintances. "Hey, look what Enzo did!"

Well... I suppose a lot of possible avenues are explored and that may be helpful. So...

              Chuck,
Your other alternative would have been to say "I have this friend who had a similar problem..."

Thanks for your replies. I guess I should have read the "mischievous troll" thread. (Funny that amp has problems for C to C#, my amp has weird noises from D to Eb). My amp is sitting in a practise space, so I won't get to it until next week. Some good reading for me to consider a plan of action.

                Thanks,
                Andrew.

Well... As long as they're not on the forum I suppose.
