  • Ampeg Jet II...finally fixed it!

I posted here a couple years ago (yes, YEARS ago... I've got a bunch of amps so it wasn't a real rush to get it fixed ) Regarding my Ampeg Jet II - it's a 15/20 watt (pcb) 2- EL84 1 -12" combo for those not familiar with it. In any case it had an intermittent problem where it would cut out after 10 -15 minutes of playing at moderate volume. I posted here a few times and got some helpful hints on how to trouble shoot it - which I followed (I thought...) with no positive results. In any case, after reading through some other threads (that mentioned similar problems in some dissimilar amps) I decided to give it one last ditch attempt and re-solder all the connections on the "tube board" (seperate from the main pcb). I know for sure that I had done this originally to the main pcb and thought I had also done the tube mounting board - but maybe not, or at the very least I must have missed the bad solder point. Well, I guess I didn't miss anything this time because I tested the amp for about an hour and a half in the "shop" and then brought it out for the ultimate test at a four hour gig...She passed with flying colors! Thanks to all who post here and illuminate alll the possible problems and fixes for our favorite tools/toys !

Good. Not exactly an advertisement for original build quality, izzit?

No, not exactly... But it's a great sounding little amp with lush reverb and an awesome sounding tremolo (I just saw the thread on making the tremolo foot-switchable and I think I'll do that !). While the main board is a little flimsy, I think it's ok, as there really isn't any stress on it. The tube board is another story and is definitely underspec'd imo.
