  • Repairing Plastic Potentiometer Shafts

I thought I'd share this. Couple years back a friend gave me a 6 channel powered mixer. Fender SR6300P. It had 4 broken pot shafts. I finally got around to cracking it open. These shafts are 1.5" long with 'D' shape tip about a .5" long. All the shafts broke off the 'D' leaving about an inch of shaft. Mouser has the part but no knobs. I dreaded desoldering the 4 pots so I came up wiyh this. I found a translucent pen like a Bic but not a Bic. It fit snuggly over the shafts. I cut 4 pcs an inch long. I found a 1/4" wood dowel which I cut into .5" pcs. Sanded the 'D' profile on the end of the dowels. I enlarged the faceplate holes a tad to permit the pen pcs to fit through. Then I slipped the pen parts over the shaft with a spot of glue. Inserted the dowel with some glue. Put her back together and put the old knobs back on over the dowels. Done deal, looks like new. I expect the repair to be stronger than original. I'd searched the net for a solution and found none, so I thought I'd post this.
