  • Peavey Windsor Input Jack Problem?

    Hi there,

I have a Peavey Windsor Head that had minimal output & a lot of hum in it's place. First thing I did was plug an effects processor in the effects loop & played through that, sounded great. That eliminated the power amp as a problem. Next I found the schematic online, checked the voltages a preamp tubes V1 and V2. The voltages seemed reasonable. Then I guess by a stroke of luck I happened to have the guitar cable halfway in the low gain input and, walla, it's working. If I plugged all the way in then it no longer worked. I tried the same thing with the high gain input, but it didn't work whether halfway in or all the way in.

Wondered if anyone out there has an idea of what is going on? R1 seems a little bit wobbly in it's space on the PC board, but I have not taken the board out yet. Thanks, Jon.

correction to above: Just turned it on, maybe an hour later. Now I get extremely low output, whether through the effects loop or not. Start over. Don't understand this since nothing else changed, didn't move anything.

      Fixed

The tips of both input jacks had cold solder joints. The grounds & the TS joints were fine. This is why I could plug halfway into the low gain jack & get a signal. The 'TS' connection was still going to R1 & I was getting the high gain signal from the low gain jack. Heating up both joints brought both high & low gain inputs working again. Fortunately I have no aspirations of being a professional repair person because I would have been fired for the amount of time it took to figure this out. Just thought I would post in case anyone else had a similar problem.
