I've modded my Hiwatt considerably and it's a good amp. It just seems that it radiates a bit (always has) into my humbucker pickups regardless of the guitar. I don't like vintage noise levels So the crazy idea I'm weighing is to sell the original power transformer and swap in a torriodial type instead.
Maybe one with a custom voltage tap for the plates for a low-power mode.

Also for single coil, Strat purists, why not recommend the same approach to them—so that don't have to do the 45º ? Just wondering...

Anyway I fear more PC monitors, TVs, SMPS power supplies and such much more than tired old EI transformers.
