When i sign in and i start a new thread then i try to submit the new post, i get a message saying i'm not signed in and i know full well that i signed in before i even typed the post. Am i doing something wrong?

I get "timed out" on many forums. Usually if you're "inactive" (e.g. logged but typing a long post) for a moderate period of time the forum automatically logs you out.

Or it could just be this forum software. I personally can post here only via the "reply to thread" button since conventional logging in instantly crashes my browser. The browser also crashes when the post has been sent and the browser tries to update itself to the usual forum view while me being logged in. The browser also crashes if I try to view personal settings and PM:s (sorry guys who PM me, I can't view that stuff) or if I simply click icons of attached files instead of opening them to a new window. I think there are a few more kinks as well but I'm not too keen to explore. At least I can post here some way.

All in all, operation-wise this forum is the worst POS I know. Sorry, but it just is. Content wise, fortunately, it's however probably the most awesome.

99% of users have no problem at all posting on this forum.
The problem is on your end, stop blaming the forum.
If you want help:
1. list all your hardware, and operating system.
2. Make and model of computer
3. List any "free" applications, or "free fix it tools" that you installed in your system.
4. List any "free" security that you installed in your system
Most of the time, when people have the problems that you are having, it's because you loaded junk free software into your computer.
Example: "free" software that you installed that promised it would "fix" "clean" "sweep" or "scan" your computer. Or junk software, that claimed it would "speed up" your computer.
More than 80% of these free downloads are scams designed to infect your system and steal your personal information. FACT

Or, you could just have a bug. AND I will help you if you give me ALL the info as I requested, above.
However, stop blaming everything else, except your own computer, that's where the real problem is.

tboy takes the site down on occasion for updates, but when it is up, it usually works fine on my end.

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking it's timing out on me because some of my post's are pretty long in order to give all of the info i can. I don't have this problem all the time, just sometimes. But any way i have an Ampeg V-4/vt 22 that is losing it's bias voltage. I can measure the bias voltage at ---62 volts at o/p tube pin 5 and after about 20 minutes, it goes from ---62 up to +200 volts like someone turned on a switch. I completely rebuilt the bias circuit. The amp has low volume is the initial complaint and it was also modded for EL34s and it had 6L6GCs in it. It was also modded with an adjustable bias circuit. In order to track down the problem, i removed the adjustable bias circuit and returned it to stock per schematic. I also ordered a set of 7027s and installed them and i had no bias voltage at all and also r30 was getting hot along with r 55 which blew apart, so i re installed the 6l6s and replaced the damaged parts. I had ---62 volts bias voltage until the above mentioned problem. Any ideas? Sorry if i sounded like i was blaming the forum but it's frustrating when you type a nice long post and can't submit it, of course it could be i'm still getting the hang of this forum. I don't spend much time on forums. It's the newbie syndrome.

Unless you have really bad tubes, the only place that I can think of that 200Vdc would come from is the PI circuit.
That would lead me to supect the coupling caps from the PI to the grid.

I agree with Teemuk. There is nothing wrong with your computer. It's the problem with this forum software. It has a "timeout period" parameter set to a very low value (contrary to other forums) - something like 3-5 minutes. And if you a typing a long post, and it takes more than 5 minutes, you are automatically logged off. It's because the server assumes that you are "inactive". Simple solution is to prepare your post is some other software (e.g. Notepad) and paste it here. The administartor of this forum could also change the "timeout period" settings but it seems that this is to difficult. I also encounter the same problem quite often. To make sure that you don't loose your message, you can select it (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C) - on Windows before hiting the Submit Reply button.

ampeg v4 bias issue

Hi Jazz p. I've already changed the PI coupling caps. I thought that may be the problem to, but apparently not. The other thing is my screen voltage. During my test last night i only had voltage to two of my screens. I changed the screen resistors from 1 k back to 470 ohm and still no voltage to two of my tubes. I don't know what to make of this. But when i remove all 4 o/p tubes all the voltage comes back to normal. Could one shorted tube socket be causing this? I know when some amps lose grounds, strange things can happen. Maybe it's a cracked solder joint. I'll look at and re solder all the solder connections and clean the heck out of the boards and see what that does. But i'm running out of ideas. By the way, the GK backline is fixed. I just ordered a new pre amp board for 98 bucks and it's off to the races. Thanks for the help.

The login timeout setting has been increased from it's previous value of 21 minutes to 35 minutes. I hope that helps. To avoid the timeout issue altogether, just check the "Remember Me?" box when you log in.

Yeah, I always click the remember me button, if nothing else I don't have to log in each time I come here. And believe me, if anyone writes long posts around here, I am certainly guilty of it. I never get logged out. IN fact I can start a reply post, walk away and go to lunch and come back and finish my post.

The only trouble I ever have here is that double post thing it wants to do. My system is stock out of hte box Microsoft Windows, whatever the latest version is before the new 8. 7 maybe? And my browser is straight stock IE of modern vintage.

When the security software on my computer decides to download new definitions, my computer becomes useless. This happened once when I was trying to post. When I regained control I checked if my reply posted, it didn't, I pressed reply again and hit the Restore Auto Saved content button (you don't always see it) and it worked.
