  • Peavey classic 30 ghost note

I have a Peavey classic 30 that came to me and it has a peculiar kind of a hum, buzz, distorted sound as you let the guitar notes ring out, especially G. New speaker, new tubes and everything is tightened in the cabinet. Any ideas?

    Check the power supply.
You may have a bad cap.

Hi Jazz p. How are you? I'm thinking you're right. Since i have the boards out of it already i might as well do a complete filter cap service on it . These are not my favorite amps to work on, but it is what it is and that's my job. I'll do that tomorrow and let you know. Thanks.

I had a prosonic that did something similar. Letting a low A note play out through decay I got all sorts of interesting stuff mixed in. I walked the tone circuit with a scope and guitar from input through the band filter until I found a bad cap. Clean on one side, spikes on the other.
