  • problem with roland cube 20x

    hey guys,

ive been away from home for a year with my stuff in my moms basement as storage and i tried my roland cube 20x and the built in distortion effects did not work eventually by fiddling with the knobs a bit i could get a distortion sound, but even when i changed the distortion type the sound wouldnt change. :S anything i can do to fix this or is it pooched? thanks

I would guess it needs to be cleaned. Most likely has some corrosion built up in it from moisture ?

Not sure how it opens but get to the back of the potentiometers and usually there are two holes in the backs of them. Go to Radio Shack and get some Deoxit, spray in the holes and work the knobs forth a dozen times. You can also spray jacks and switches and work them while you`re in there.

If it helps but they are still glitchy, repeat. Keep a Qtip and paper towel handy for overspray. A little goes a long way.

If it doesn`t help then there is probably a different problem.

I always do a visual inspection while I`m in there. Last time I pulled out a big old electrocuted roach. Look for signs of burning, foreign objects, bridged circuit traces and bad looking solder joints.
