    Hi -

I recently resoldered all the headers and the amp worked well for awhile. Now, after it's on for an hour or so, it makes a flapping sound (sort of like a blown speaker). I'm guessing the supply caps might be dry and heating up and then rattling, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Tnx

    Don't guess.
Measure the Vac ripple on the supplies.

      Yes^^^^^^

Did you play the head through some other speakers?

That has two power amps, right? (I am thinking the right unit?) Does this sound come out both amps? Or just one?

This has the tube and solid state preamp? Play through tube only, then through solid state only. Does it do this in both or just one of them? And the graphic should have an in/out button. Does the position of that make a difference?

You have FX loop jaks. PLay into the regular input, set up the controls as normal, don't connect a speaker. Run a cord from the FX send to the input of some other amp and speaker. Doesw it still do it there, or does it sound OK? And likewise, play into some other preamp, and run that signal into the FX return. COnnect your speakers back up, and how does that other preamp sound through your power amp? The FX jacks allow us to split the head into preamp and power amps and test them separately.

You have a DI out? Play through the amp and send the DI to some other amp or PA system. Still do it out of that?
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

All good suggestions, tnx. Some I have already tried, some I will. The essence of the problem is that it is intermittent, however, so most of the time it works fine. I know these amps have some special issues (eg, the use of poor ROHS solder at some point), so what I'm looking for is someone who has troubleshot this exact problem in this exact amp.
