A different story now. A customer, not my tech. And customer is a nice guy, and has taken my advice on building from time to time. But this time he tried to get the knob off a pot on a Fender HRD. Stuck tight, he eventually pried it off, but the pot shaft came with the knob. Went to the next pot, knob stuck, pried and pried until the knob pulled the shaft out of that pot too. In fact, honest to god, he went down the row and did that to every pot on it. it was only then he noticed... the set screws on the knobs. I can see maybe the first one, but all of them?
A poor people tenement house burnt down, 1 block away.
Some 60 families went homeless.
Mine is a "Tourist" street and I'm surrounded by "Hippie Artisan" types, those who make "jewelry", play flutes and guitars, reek of "Jamaican best", wear sandals, Indian clothes, I think you get the type.
Cool, well intentioned people, they "organized" a mini Rock Festival, to help the now homeless.
I lent them some amps, plus musicians brought their own.
One of them, "slightly" stoned, "stole" electricity from a street lamp post and wired some extension strips to it.
He turned the first amp on ... it exploded like a grenade.
Second .... the same.
HE BURNT 5 OR 6 AMPS (AND A BOOMBOX CASSETTE PLAYER AND A DESK TYPE LAMP) until somebody stopped him.
He had pulled a 380V line thinking it was 220 V
Worst is that after each explosion or blown fuse, he said "WOW !!!... *LOOK* AT THAT !!! WEIIIIIRD !!!!" and he proceeded to turn the next one on .... until somebody slightly less stoned realized something was wrong.
Now, them being my "friends" and since everything was made for a "good cause", guess who had to repair the mess?
