I have a real 65 Super Reverb that is working, but when I power it up out of the cab I can hear a ticking/clacking at idle coming from the PT. I tried tightening down the bolts, no change. Am I hearing arcing that is foreboding a replacement PT? No noise at output. Any way to test for this?

Power the primary through an ammeter (or the famous "light bulb limiter") If the ammeter kicks, or the bulb blinks, with every tick, then most likely something is arcing. However, arcing would most probably make popping sounds through the speaker, no matter where in the circuit it happened.
To find out what it is, disconnect the PT secondaries one by one until it stops. If it still does it once you've disconnected them all, then it must be the PT itself.
Some likely suspects: Bad PT, bad rectifier tube."Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"
