  • Fender the twin (1990's) 250k 16mm PDT pots

I have to replace 4 damaged 250K pots on this amp and I can find two Alpha parts at Mouser:

    1) Audio taper 100K
    2) Linear taper 500K

    What to do? http://ampwares.com/schematics/the_twin.pdf

What part of the pots is damaged.
If the wafer is good, you may be able to find the wrong value pot & swap the resistance wafer.

I see five 250k pots on that amp, and four of them have a switch. Are you replacing pots that have pull switches?

I think most of those switch features are like mid boost or bass cut or similar, so you COULD replace a switched pot with a plain pot and hard wire the switch circuit to be always on or off. Problem is that the tone stack pots - value matters. You can fudge on a volume control, but not so easy the tone stack.

Go to RG's Geofex web site and look up the secret life of pots. You could fit a 500k with some parallel resistors to make a 250k.

Ah, I see Jazz posted as I wrote the above.

The pull switch pots are Fender # 25946, and the Darren Riley site Jazz linked shows them. But they also want $20 each. Look for that part number elsewhere maybe cheaper.

      The one 250k without a switch is part# 24662

I'll check tomorrow at work, but I thought Mouser had those in 250K. They've been adding alot of odd pots that are in amps and pedals lately.
Also, have you checked out guitar parts places?
They make the same size pots with pull switch for guitar pickup wiring.

Also what's damaged or wrong with them?
I have one guy who just abuses the hell out of his The Twin, and before I found the replacement pots I was able to fix the ones he broke.

Mouser has some Bourns pots but I believe they have 3/8" threaded sections so they won't work without opening up the front panel hole. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...2lhe%2fIRhU%3d

I took a plastic hammers and "re-aligned" the bent shafts but haven't had a chance to see if there is any internal damage.

          Thanks for the suggestions.

I've had success straightening bent shafts with a vise.
