hey guys, thanks for all your help. I found the problem. I had the B+ going directly to one side of the standby switch and the other leg of the standby switch was conected to the filter cap.I re-directed the b+ to the filter cap and then to the standy switch with the other side of the switch going to the diodes /rectifier and it works fine now.
