  • Randall RH 200 channels unbalanced

I have this Randall RH 200 solid state guitar amp. The situation is that the clean channel is way louder than the distortion channel. The distorted channel has to be cranked almost all the way but not enough to keep up with the clean channel that's barely tapped. What could be the problem?

Is this true of both gain 1 and gain 2 circuits?

Try and isolate the problem to a particular circuit. This amp uses a lot of fet switches to turn on and off the channels. The problem may or may not be an fet, but you will have to follow the signal path through all of them to find out where the signal gets reduced.

+1 on checking the FETs. I've had a few Randalls with failed FETs that reduce the volume on one channel. Signal generator and scope would be ideal, or failing that a DIY audio probe.
