I read that new rectifier tubes are not reliable. what you think (or experienced) wich one is more reliable JJ 5u4gb or JJGz34 ? or any new stock tubes?. I cant find any NOS Mullards available in Europe. Is a 500ma HT fuse on preamp wire good idea? or is bulb limiter providing enough protection in the case of shorted Rectifier tube? Anyone using 5u4gb rectifier with Hammond 291bex transformer? heater is 3A rated so I think it schould not be a problem to use it with JJ 5U4gb. or do I need 4A heater transformer ?

I use NOS or used 5U4GBs from RCA, Tung Sol, Think I have a Raytheon too. I can usually find them for $20 - $30. Better than any of the new ones, IMHO. Mullards are great, but there are others that are very reliable also.
