  • TC G-Major parts

The TC web site is a little vague, but says parts might be available from their service centers. Apparently there is one service center here in the USA. My customer brought me a G-Major with a snapped off edit encoder (with push switch). Asked the service center for the part, no dice. ALL repairs must be sent to them, they say. I am uncomfortable boxing up a unit and sending it across the country just to replace a panel control. Just the way I am, I guess.

SO I wonder if that part could be replaced by the similar part Behringer uses on their mixer DFX selector?

Well, duh. I never looked beyond the company. They pulled a Nady on me and I got pissed.

Still, $11 is pretty steep, but at least there it is.

I can get them at Mouser for $1.37 as well.

I was just miffed that I discovered TC was on the list of zero support.

I've recently worked on a G-major; when the customer rang TC they'd suggested the only option was to send it back for a fixed-price repair. By the time it was packed and insured it was more than the unit was worth, so he bought a brand new......G-major! I took a look at the old one and it ideally needed a new display unit. No spares available though.

With nothing to lose, I split the screen off the back plane and removed the zebra contacts down each side. They'd become compressed and stuck in their channels. Needed a lot of re-trys to get it to realign, keep fingerprints off, and prevent light leakage, but It worked in the end.

He'd also had the snapped encoder replaced by TC - £150. The PCB had part of its track missing where the old one had been removed.

I figured Mouser would have something, but without part in hand it's hard to know what to look for. Anyway, glad you found a source.

Nice! They force you to send repairs to them and then don't have the skills to do the job right.

I know this is 8 years old... But, does anyone know the Mouser part numbers for the 2 encoders used on the G Major?

No recollection. Would have to see original part.

We have a number of RH750's, RH450's and BH800's in our rental inventory. Their control knobs break off with the greatest of ease, and, as you've already found, Contacting TC for replacement parts is a no-win scenario. I'm assuming all the TC inventory we have here at CenterStaging actually belongs to them, so other than shipping (with, of course, no fitted shipping boxes), we are forced to send them back to them in Texas (I think that's where the US Service Center is). All other attempts to get parts from them to repair simple breakage issues are met with the same reply they give everyone. Shame.

SO far, in general, I don't recall anyone using a custom encoder. I could generally find something in the parts market that fit.
