  • Sovtek 6L6WXT

I am working on a 1996 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and when I put these tubes into the amp I could only get the bias down to 95mV when following the bias procedure on the schematic. Put in a pair of JJ's and the bias came right in without issue. I didn't use a bias probe since I was in a bit of a rush. Why the issue with the Sovtek's when trying to set bias?

Have you tried more than one pair of the Sovtek's? Is it a matched pair? Maybe try one at a time and see if one is running hotter than the other when using the same bias setting. I'm guessing one of them is bad?

but that's right at 70%, leave it there

From the 6L6WXT's I have installed it appears that they do bias up hot.

You need a real good range to get them down.

It may be 70% but the factory setting is for 60mV, not 95mV. It will definitely reduce the lifespan of the tubes, which would not be fair to the customer without approval.
