  • Looking for Ampeg socket

I'm looking for an old type valve socket from an old Ampeg SVT amp. This is quite unusual socket. Its diameter is 25 mm. Actually I need to replace only one pin but the pins are also unusual. There is 160 symbol on it. I have a photo of the socket but the upload does not work (again).

Thanks. It seems that this is the one I need: 8 Pin Octal Tube Socket, NOS #2 - Product Details
Now the question whether they can send it to Europe. I'll send them an email.

While you're at it, might as well ask them if they have any of the pins, they might just have them.

What's so unusual about the pins?
I'm guessing it's one of the output tube sockets?
Are there any unused pins that you can move to where you need it?

The pins are smaller than in other sockets. Yes, this is for one of the output tubes. All the pins are used. At least one of the pins is melted.

              What type of output tubes?
Is one of the pins just being used for a circuit connection, and not used by the tube like pin 6 on 6L6's or EL34's?

He said it's an SVT so it is either 6550 or 6146 power tubes. If it's 6550's, pin6 is not used. If it's 6146, pins 1,4,&6 are connected together internally, so only 1 of them needs to be connected to the circuit.
So for either case, the pin in position 6 should be able to be removed and used to replace the broken/burnt pin.

Yes, you are right - the valves are 6550. So one pin is not used but the problem is that actually 2 pins are melted. So I need at least 1 new pin. The guys from fliptops still don't answer to my email. It's holidays season and it looks like they need at least one week to answer to an email.

There are 6 sockets in there, you should be able to remove pin 6 from any of them. If pin6 is being used as a tie point, that connection can be moved somewhere else, pin 6 of the tube does not need to be connected to anything.
So you should be able to remove the pin6 pin from all 6 sockets and you will have some left over for spares.
