  • stereo/mono cab wiring jacks?

I have a couple extra 8 ohm speakers and want to build up a simple 2x12 cab for amp/load testing. I want to wire it up for versatility to get 4/8/16 ohm options with a DPDT toggle and 2 inputs (basically like marshal does some of their 2x12 stereo/mono cabs.

My only question is what kind of switching jacks are these in the schematic? Looks like each jack has a switch for the tip and the sleeve correct? Can someone enlighten me? I would like open-face jacks but whatever works.

    Thank you.

OK maybe the Switchcraft 14B is the correct jack. Would I then wire the ring (in place of the sleeve) as it is switching? It looks like the actual sleeve lug would not be used/soldered if I am correct?

Or just use Cliff style jacks - what some call Marshall jacks - the ones with the large plastic nut. The sleeve cutout contact is obvious, a very intuitive jack to wire up. PLus you can mount them on a metal panel and the sleeve bushings won;'t be shorted together by the panel.

        Thanks Enzo,
It looks like the mono switched jack has both the T and S switched as well.

Thinking further on this, I also have a 4-ohm 15" speaker. I wonder if a better cab option would be to do a 3 speaker (4,8, and 16-ohm) each with its own dedicated input.

Do you guys find a big 4-ohm speaker useful in the shop for testing? (i.e. bass amps, power amps, etc)

I think you might find two separate cabs more useful. A 2x12 and 1x15 cab would be pretty large! If you keep them separate they will be easier to move (when necessary), more versatile for other uses and won't take up much more space. A cab loaded with guitar AND bass speakers works solely as an enormous bench tool and would be a little to novel for me, personally.
