Selling that book has been an ongoing scam for several years.
They also promise you an "exclusive dealership." which is another scam...
But they are still selling the parts, only to recone centers.

Odd? I am/was a recone center for years. I used to buy tons of kits from them. Several years ago I called to order some stock/commonly used parts. I was told on the phone that they were discontinuing their recone parts and would no longer be selling. I never heard from them again. I would think that if they were still selling I'd be getting at least some mail from them? This has me puzzled.

Also, if they only sell to recone centers, what was the point of posting the info in the first place?

My experience with Waldom years ago was this: we asked about becoming a recone shop and they told us there was already a Waldom reconer in the area so they could not make us one.

Dude, I have no idea what Waldom ever posted or where, but I do know there are dealer-only companies like Magic Parts and CEDist that have web pages so you can see things they sell, but you cannot access the goods without an account.

We had two recone shops within a couple miles so I never bothered to set aside an area for the mess, fumes and dirt of reconing, back in the day. after moving here, and about 8 years I started repairing a few amps for people and found that no drivers were available but found a few people who rebuilt speaker. They wind their own VCs and parts. I used one that was a side business in a defense research facility where I had to meet the guy out on the street to pass the item and he would sneak them in. It was a hassle but the recones and rewound VC worked well.
Later I found a guy who did it as a part time job/hobby that was more convenient and was a real master. He made everything from cast frames to his own dust caps, horn diaphragms, and cones. I have been using him for almost 2 years and never had a failure of one of his rebuilds. He is a submarine officer and is based here and does not go out often to sea but uses his little shop as a way to get away from his wife, who he says is why he volunteered for sub duty in the first place. I had him put new hand wound voice coils in two 15 inch PA cabs and two home made horn diaphragms with hand wound VCs last week, did it in 3 days and charged a total of $50. They test well, work well and I am sure his record of 100% reliability will continue a bit longer.

LOL! I can just picture it. Stan, in a trench coat with a carnation in the lapel. Carrying a box wrapped in plain brown paper and tied with jute.

I thout the most amusing part was "...uses his little shop as a way to get away from his wife, who he says is why he volunteered for sub duty in the first place."...

I've done a handful of recones, based on the advice/help of Mr. Fahey from this forum.
I've been getting supplies from Weber in Kokomo IN, and they've been very helpful.
They don't sell recone kits, just ala carte parts.
Is there anyone else that sells recone parts to the amateurs like me?
The reason I'm looking for another supplier is that I'd like more choices in cones and spiders.
My next project is to recone a Jensen F12N field coil speaker for a guitar amp, and I'd like more choices in cones with a 1.75 inch voice coil diameter. It's a long cold winter and I've got plenty of time to recone and experiment.

As I suggested in post #4, google "speaker reconing" and get a ton of links.

Most kits that I have used come with PVA as the adhesive - I worked for a company that designed drivers but had them built in China. PVA was the adhesive of choice there as well - no real vapors and cheap. I know Loctite (now Henkel) has multiple adhesives that also work (Black Max, etc) but $$$. I did see PVA fail a few times when trying to bond plastic to plastic.

A couple of Celestion cone/vc/spider kits have recently been made available thru antique/ce.

My local recone pro has been bemoaning the 'balkanization' of sources for parts. Waldom WAS the place, but look they shot themselves in the feet, real good, multiple times. Managed. To. Death. A couple years ago Legacy in Virginia Beach was offering lots of good parts but they're gone now too.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

So what is the going rate for the average 12 inch speaker recone?
                                Ballpark is fine.
