Peavey classic 50?

Hey guys, i just bought a peavey classic 50 and it has 4x 16ohm speakers. I'm assuming that the 4 speakers are wired to 16ohm load. The problem is that the speaker lead was plugged into the 8 ohm output . I don't want to damage the amp so to be sure i need some advice? I understand that you can't wire 4x16ohm to a 8ohm only to 4 or 16 ohm.
