I have a question for somebody out there in Line 6 land....I have this floor pedal that was dropped off to me with the complaint of "No Power|". He used another adapter with the same problem.....I checked it and sure enough...no power....took it apart and couldn't find anything wrong....checked the adapter and it had power coming out of it...so after going around in circles I realized that he had used the wrong adapter.....I must have been asleep at the wheel or something......the adapter he supplied with the unit is rated for 9VAC at 2000 ma..........his unit calls for a 9VDC with center negative at 2500 ma....here is the issue...he said he does not have any other line 6 gear only this unit....and he said he had used this adapter for over a year.....is that actually possible??? I can't get an ac adapter to work...I used my bench power supply to supply the 9VDC...and it works......but the ac adapter won't work contrary to what he says.....any suggestions or comments anybody??

Effects pedals and AC adapters attract idiots. You will learn this, in time...
No, it is NOT possible. YOU are not crazy.

The FIRST thing that a person who owns an effects pedal WILL DO:
is randomly plug "any" power supply into "any" effects pedal.

    AND as a result:
They will blow up the power supply OR
    blow up the effects pedal;
    OR both.

They NEVER learn, they NEVER listen to you, and they are always trying to HIDE their mistake.
    That's Life.

AS you notice, different voltage, AC or DC, different polarity, ALL has the same size plug and receptacle,
    on the effects unit.
    It's deliberate.

There is absolutely NO attempt to prevent wrong AC adapter from being plugged into wrong effects unit.

The manufacturer KNOWS what effects pedal owner WILL DO.

This creates a never ending market for new effects pedals, and new power supplies. It's called: Planned Obsolescence.

Out of interest - which model?

It's marginally possible that a pedal could work if it had a series connected anti-polarity diode feeding a supply bypass cap, in which case the AC supply would be half-wave rectified. Maybe a Fulltone Full Drive would get away with it, but be very noisy. Don't know if this is the case with your Line 6 pedal.

I did not think so.......Luckly for him, his unit still works...he did tell me that the original one was stolen from a local club because it was left there overnight...apparently he got this adapter at one of the local music stores about a year ago and swears that he was using it ever since....and the reason I posted this foolish thread was the fact that there was one time somebody had a Line 6 effects pedal...a modeling one I believe and of course with the wrong adapter....the unit would work when the effects were engaged but if you went to bypass it, there would be no sound....and I find that one a bit off the wall as well....( I did not personally see it)....Thanks very much...I will have to get this guy the correct adapter......and then give his unit a good cleaning....believe me...it needs it...

Hi Mick. The model is POD HD 300.....and it will not work with this ac adapter....
          Cheers,
          Bernie

You said he tried another adapter and it didn't work. Guess that one was AC also. Seems a bit odd that he would have 2 adapters that both put out AC.
Maybe his got swapped with a band mates? Some of the older POD's used AC supplies.

It must have been ac or it was dc with a very low output current rating...that won't work either...apparently he went back to the store and they rented him one....he couldn't get that one to work either.....I have no idea of what he was using...this unit works with a dc power supply so the unit is fine....I'll grab an adapter out of rentals tomorrow after our snow storm and check it out again...just to be sure...
              Cheers,
              Bernie
P.S. I think this POD is one of the older ones....but on the back panel is states a dc adapter with the voltage and current rating that is required....and the polarity as well.....center terminal negative.....

I meant real older, like back in the nineteen hundreds older . Original POD, POD 2.0 and POD XT used PX2 adapter, 9VAC, 2000mA.

Ok. I guess this one is not that old then.....most people don't look at the back of their equipment to see what kind of adapter it takes...they just assume that they are all the same......

If it's not the voltage designation it's the polarity 'Idiogram' that throws them every time.

Hey g-one...funny thing....that seems to be the adapter he was using......old style.....9VAC @2000mA.......but the unit takes DC....people don't bother to read anything...most of them don't even bother to read....period!!
