  • Marshall valve state 8008 transistors

I am trying to find replacement transistors for a Marshall valve state rack mount 8008. I Have pulled the six main power transistors located on the heatsinks many years ago and have lost them. I remember that most if not all 6 were burnt and or smoking at one point. I do know that the fuses kept blowing and figured it was do to the bad transistors. I know that 4 of them where made by Marshall because it was written on the transistors them selves. At one point I contacted Marshall and several other places about getting replacements and of course was denied because I was not an authorized service center. This was many years ago and I recently started looking again about a week ago and have found nothing. If I can't get the actual Marshall transistors is there a close match with another brand that will work?

The schematic shows them as BDV64 and BDV65.

Digikey has them here: BDV64, BDV65

Here's a link to the schematic: Valvestate 8008 (so you can figure out what the other 2 transistors are )

Yes, on the 8080 they are called out as BDV64 and BDV65. The schematic shows them as bipolar darlingtons.

These are remarkably similar to the TIP142/147 pair that SLM uses a lot. Fender too. I use them enough to maintain stock on them.

TIP142 NPN (147 is PNP) is a 12 amp 100 volt part with 125 watts dissipation available.

I just get the BDVs from Korg since my shop is Marshall authorized. Left on my own I would probably stuff some TIPs in there
I've used the TIP147/142 without any problems.

Thanks. Yes, I have used TIP142/147 for years and years in place of the BDVs.

The originals may have had Marshall printed on them, but Marshall did not MAKE them. You can get your name printed on a transistor too if you order enough of them.
