Hello Friends...
I am trying to save a Crate V3112 combo from the landfill. This amp belongs to a young starving guitar student so I decided to take it on as a "Let me see what I can do project."
When I first turned on the amp, I disregarded the lamo Celestion Seventy 80 speaker. I heard some noise and distortion coming out of the clean channel. So I removed the EL84 power tubes and using the Line Out to drive a clean amp and good speaker. Yup, the distortion and noise are still there. I also notice an occasional "tick" sound coming through the amp. So I need to clean up the input stage (and maybe the power supplies).
I found a VC3112 schematic but it does not look right. The components do not seem to match what I have on-hand. Does anyone know if these (V3112 and VC3112) are similar?
I saw a very old post on this board but the source file for the schematics must have been removed. And yes, I saw the posts regarding the 60 ohm, 10 watt cathode resistor that needs to be swapped out for an aluminum mounted on the case. I will get to that, eventually.
For now, I want to start with a clean schematic if I can find one and measure up the power supplies and look at ripple levels.
Thanks in advance,
Tom
