  • Vox Viscount Repair/Refurb

Picking up from this thread http://music-electronics-forum.com/t36945/
The two Viscount cabinets model 1151 and 1153. If anyone can shed some light an the differences between the two and which one is more desirable, I would be most grateful.

This link The VOX Showroom - The Vox Viscount Amplifier - V-15, V115, V1151, V1152, V1153, V1154 , which is listed on the web site I referenced in the other thread, discusses the differences in the Viscount model series.

The second photo with the power amp, shows a Royal Guardsman power amp. The Viscount uses a smaller TO-5 driver transistor, the Guardsman uses the TO-66 cased one.

The speakers look like Utahs, maybe from a Fender. The Viscounts usually had Oxford made Gold Bulldogs.

The Viscount is the only combo in the Thomas Organ "big head" line. All of these amps share common sheet metal chassis parts, and physical sizes of most of the amp. They differ in
        - power supply current capability; all of them use +/-31Vdc power supplies, but at different currents
        - power amp current - and hence, power output - ability; the Viscount and Buckingham have the lowest power at about 30Wrms
        - details of the internal circuit boards and what controls are brought out to the outside control panels.

All of the circuit boards in the preamp section fit the same mounting hardware. In many cases, the lower end amps are lesser-populated boards which are the same as used for the bigger amps.

I'm putting finishing touches on a replacement preamp circuit board layout. It's about 12" long, fits the common mounting hardware for all the preamp boxes, and implements the circuits of the V1143*6 Beatle. Every lower amp can be made to work by de-functioning down from this.
Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!

Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.
