  • Carvin Pro Bass 100 Questions

    Hey guys,

    I'm going over a Carvin Pro Bass 100. It had a new IC installed about a week ago, and it blew shortly afterward. The Carvin part is 60-72940, and I'm looking to replace it with a TDA7292V. I measured all of my voltages at the ribbon cable that goes into the power amp module. I'm getting my +47 at H6-5 and H6-4, and -47 at H6-6 and H6-7. I'm wondering about H6-3 where I'm getting +25 and H6-8 where I'm getting +10. Can anyone tell me if that IC and those voltages are correct?

    Based on the part number I would think that the 100 watt TDA7294 is the correct replacement. The TDA7292 is a stereo 40 watt chip.

      My mistake, I meant the TDA7294

        The Stndby & Mute signals come off of a 15 volt regulator on the power supply.
        Neither pin needs more than 5 or 6 volts to turn on. (spec is 3.5Vdc)

        I would check that regulator.

          I think you got the IC wrong.
          The schematic shows a single (mono) Power IC, with one +input and one output; the TDA7292 (first time I heard about it and thought it was a typo) is a stereo Power IC with two + inputs and two outputs, absolutely incompatible.

          To boot, it stands +/-33V rails and you measure +/-47V ones.

          Please edit the Pwr schematic I cropped and label the IC with the actual pin numbers to check which is which.

          How many legs does it have?

          A close up picture will help.

            Sorry but StBy and Mute come from Raw +V, before the regulators.

            The schematic is poorly drawn

            It also states +/-36VDC rails inside the PS drawing while on connectors it states +/-47V , confirmed by measurement, and worse, if so those regulators are overstressed with such a high input voltage.

            A marginal design at best.
