I need a couple of good 6SL7's

Does anyone have any experience with the Russian/Ukranine sellers of "NOS" military tubes? I need a couple of 6SL7's for a build I'm doing, they don't need to be matched. Where to pick some up at a fair price?

New Sensor may still have some. Everyone I got from them worked but was still microphonic to some degree.
You may be able to find some decent old ones.
Maybe somebody here has a source they want to divulge.

Some of those old odd tubes like Loctals are getting harder and harder to find

I've had no different experience with Russia and Ukraine or Bulgaria than anywhere else. Just do your research on the seller. I've had the best value by far from those sources for all kinds of stuff; cameras, electronics, mechanical parts.

The difficulty comes if there's an honest mistake and you need to send something back - the return postal cost can be much higher than you paid to get the items in the first place. But that's a problem all over the world.

Are the new production ones no good? For NOS what is the price range you are looking for?

I would use a different tube if it is a new build.
Or buy a rash of NOS tubes & hope for the best.

I got a black plate RCA in the box for $18 on ebay. Haven't fired it up yet, but I'd love to score another one or two like that. I might try one of those Ukraine guys.

If it were me, I'd go back to fleabay and get a few more RCA NOS tubes. They show up frequently and not too high priced, compared to NOS 12AX7 etc.

I would go with a 6SN7.

Wanted to chime in here, as I use these tubes a lot and have literally been through hundreds.
Even amongst nice NOS they are prone to hum and microphonics. 6SU7 variety are usually quieter.
I would avoid those Reflektor 6N9S, they are dirt cheap but you'll likely have a dozen duds before you find a quiet one.
The new production Tung Sol 6SL7 are very good, but recently doubled in price. May as well find a 6SU7 for the $40...

If you are not adverse to DC heaters they will quiet down, or try biasing AC heaters to a negative DC..

The 6SL7 does not have a shared cathode. There are two completely separate triodes like a 12AX7. I agree that the new Tung Sol versions sound good and seem to be fairly non-microphonic. They have doubled in price for some odd reason. You can find NOS sometimes for what they charge for the new Tung Sol.

Look around on Craigslist for crappy old organs. I think that Hammond used those tubes in a few models, so others (that have no resale value) might have as well.
