    Cool. Before replacing sockets, that's a lotta work to do before realizing it might just be the 6sc7 tube. Sometimes the tube pins can be corroded enough to be the problem. And cleaning them doesn't always work.

      Thnx Lowell, the 6sc7 is a NOS tested tube but they are prone to microphonics. A good cleaning and socket re-tensioning should do the trick. fingers crossed.

        NOS tested or not, only way to know is puttin another tube in there to see. Tested tubes, nos tubes, nos tested tubes....doesnt mean anything until the tube is in an amp with high operating voltages on it. Again, cleaning and retentioning tube sockets isnt going to fix corroded or oxidized tube pins.

          the tube pins are free of any oxidation. the tube sockets are 45+yrs old.

            Tightened all the tube sockets, installed an impedance selector so there is 4-8-16ohm speaker options. No issues :-)
