I had this unit to repair....There was a small backround hum in the speaker with no signal and all controls set to minimum...I found a bad output tube that was causing this...... it showed a heater to cathode leakage on the tube tester.......... I replaced with a used set I have here for testing and the amp was dead quiet.......went into the store and picked up a new set, bought them home and to my dismay, the hum was back....double checked with my test tubes and the hum was there.....upon further inspection I noticed the solder pad for pin 5 on one of the output sockets would move ever so slightly....I discovered that there was a very small break where the pad joins the trace....It looks as if when removing and installing tubes this action could have caused the fracture......just thought I would post this...it might help somebody out in the future....

Thanks for this.
The HRD is to repairpersons what Microsoft Windows is to the Geek Squad.

I thought it was "job security!"
Hey, I can't knock the Hit Rod series... they're WAY more reliable than any Windoze product, right off the floor! And any "updates"are strictly optional - when you update your DeVille, you know that any downtime is strictly self-inflicted. And I don't know any Hot Rods that crash with a "Blue Tube of Death" every time you plug a different guitar in it...
So, when I need a new computer, I'll just buy an amp instead. One that DOESN'T have buttons, screens, or presets.

When resoldering or touching up, I sometimes find it is helpful to use an Exacto knife and scrape at the trace which leads to the solder point. It helps with the connection and adds a little more strength to the joint. This is also helpful when the trace around a solder point is compromised because of the iron's heat and lifts the trace from the board.
Bernie, glad you fixed it!It's not just an amp, it's an adventure!

Pin 5, intermittant connection.
That's the bias pin.
No bias voltage & the tube 'glowed blue'.
The next step up in color was RED.
