  • Best wire for 100w tube amp???

    Hi everyone,
I'm going to restore an old Earth Sound Research head. When I got it opened up, it turns out that a mouse had lived inside, sometime in the past 30 years (seriously). When I cleaned out all the nesting, sun flower seed shells, etc, I found that several components, and a lot of wire insulation had been chewed up. In a few places, two wires were missing some insulation, and shorting together.

So I've decided to completely re-wire the amp from scratch. I want to know the best wire for the job. I'd like to use just ONE type of wire to do the entire thing (unless thats a bad idea), to keep it simple. I'm assuming I need at least 22awg & 600v...

Any help would be appreciated- please let me know what you guys would recommend. I'm hoping to order the wire tomorrow night, so I can finally get started. Thanks ...........................................ken

22 is fine for everything but the heater and mains wiring. I'd go up to 20 for the heaters and 18 for the mains.

You're going to want some different colors of insulation, to keep track of everything, so no big deal to get a few different gauges.

I wire everything with silver teflon, but I'm addicted to the stuff.

600V rated PVC stranded copper is adequate.

      Thanks for reply...

Thanks for getting back to me. Who carries silver teflon wire? I can't find it at Weber or AES. Also, is it shielded cable?? I hate to use shielded, if its not necessary. Plus the original doesn't have any shielded wires, so it would probably be ok without it. Let me know, thanks .......................................................k en
