  • Epiphone socal 50 Reverb tank

Does anyone know what reverb tank can be used in a Socal 50? Customer bought the amp without a tank and I have been unable to find any info on what they used in these. Thanks

A look at the amp schematic should tell us. A tube drive with transformer wants a low Z pan, while a cap off a plate wants a high Z pan

Well could not confirm what the type of reverb tank it is but did find this out. Check out the comment " Also a great upgrade for the Epiphone® So-Cal from the original two-spring tank." in regards to Part #9AB1C1B on this web page.

Edit: Ah ha! Check this link too. Looks to be a 4AB1C1B type tank and is considered an "Odd Ball". Hint: Read the one review for that reverb and it states the original was a Belton brand.

I guess it's considered "oddball" in that it is short decay rather than the long decay of the typical Fender tank. Otherwise they are the same. (stock Epi 4AB1C1B vs traditional Fender 4AB3C1B).
It would be interesting to see if the Fender style tank in there would make is sound better or worse.

Thanks for the replies. The tank is transformer driven. Wondering about the output impedance?

The output impedances are all the same. Look at the lists: 4AB, 4EB, 4BB, 4FB, etc (Or 9 or 8) The second letter is a B in all. There are other letters listed by Accutronics, but who has ever seen one in the last 50 years?
