  • Premier 88 tremolo not working

Yet another Premier, this time the '88'. THese are such a pain to work on. They all seem to be different.
I hope someone can shed some light on this: the going schematic on the web is below.
To me it seems that this drawing will not work, but of course I could be wrong.
The cathode is not in the usually configuration. I would expect that it would either go to ground or
    have a resistor to ground.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Uhmm.

    Which cathode??????

It's the cathode of the the 6AU6. I connects to G3 of the pentode which is pin 7 and 1. They are connected. But if you look at the drawing i posted the last picture shows the connection of pin 1 to the 'trem' and between the 1.5k and the 470k. This is what seems odd.

Sorry, didn't see that last page... anybody care to redraw that as a schematic, instead of a mishmash of schem/layout?

I'm trying to avoid that, but it might be necessary.

Got the tremolo working. Searched around for another amp with a 6AU6 trem and found that the silvertone 1482 has one, and it's surprisingly similar, but there are definitely problems with '88' drawing. Although the cathode complaint I had, wasn't the problem at all.
On the grid there's a 1.5k, I upped that to a 2.2m. On the screen there was a 680K changed that to 330k and moved it to ground and then added in a .5uf cap in parallel, that is what brought the tremolo back.

I do not think that the posted schematic/ assembly drawing is 'factory'.

That shows you how to build one, but doesn't reveal much about the circuit.

Does your circuit appear to be stock in the amplifier?

It had some similarities to the above drawing, but also very different. I wonder if a this amp was intended to have a different pentode.
Someone before me changed out the 3 oscillator caps, the .02ufs. Who knows what else was taken out.
