    A good OT can actually drive a short. (because of the low secondary winding resistance)

      Yep. Shorted is A LOT better than an infinite load and most OT's will survive it (does not apply to transistor outputs, just tubes). I suppose you could use a switching jack with a secondary tab and put an actual load on there. But IMHE those sorts of switching jacks are more sensitive to dirt and failure than a plain shorting jack.

        So shorting jack is good. A shorted secondary is better than an infinite secondary resistance. However, if the speaker is plugged into the jack and the voice coil opens, a 470ish ohm resistor is a good idea. ?

          Yes. Also if someone plugs the speaker cable into the amp and forgets to plug it in at the speaker end. Or if the cable opens.
