  • Recap Bogen - schematic referenced

I have a dual cap can to swap in. It's 2x100uF at 500V, with a common ground a JJ. I was hoping to use this but I see two caps are originally linked likely to meet the high plater voltages which are up there. Can I alter this and tie that red/white transformer wire to ground? That way I'd meet the voltage min. and have 200uF of filtering.

thanks —always pushing the limit, I know

No, that is a voltage doubler. The caps are in series, not parallel. The circuit charges one then the other on alternate phases. If you grounded the red/white wire, then CR3 would become a dead short across teh winding every half cycle. You could remove CR3, but the result of your mod would be B+ at half the original voltage.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

OK, that makes sense, thank you so much.
