JMP 2203 power switch light?

I tried searching, but don't seem to find a replacement for a 70's (have to check exact year) Marshall 2203 power switch. The one with metal edges around the red rocker switch.

Actually the problem is just the burnt out indicator light inside the switch. So my other question is, if anyone knows if it's possible just to replace the neon bulb without breaking the switch?

Not sure about the Marshall switch but on Selmer amp (another Brit make of old) I had the same problem. I could not find a compatible size anywhere.

I found that I could disassemble the switch in question ( standby) and remove the front lens. Inside was a 150k ohm resistor and an TINY neon. I could not find a neon of that size so, since this was standy and DC I substituted a yellow LED. Worked great.

Now your switch is AC so you would need to add an external diode if you went the LED route.

I don't have the amp with me yet, and it would have been nice to know in advance, if anyone's done this before.

I have done an LED mod to a Kustom 250 switch before, so I have an idea of the procedure. And to a newer Marshall, I think it was vintage modern, which used a led already. IIRC

Can you show a picture or link to one?
I've only ever seen the rocker in all plastic, otherwise toggle switches with a separate plastic light.

Is your amp like the photo? I mean as in the standby switch has the black plastic rim and only the power switch has the metal trim?

And if so, isn't the panel hole the same size for both switches?

And if that is so, may I suggest putting the common black plastic type illuminated switch in to match the standby?

I'm going to guess your switch has been replaced and the metal trim one is not a factory part.
The info about the amp in the picture you provided confirms this, it's power switch has been replaced and is not original.
Almost every other picture in google images has the full plastic type power switch (when rocker type).

I've seen switches like that, but it isn't stock.
Standard modern replacement will be the correct size and since it's a later model it should be a four wire switch not a 5 wire like the earlier 60's ones.
If- it is a five wire, there's info out there for wiring up a replacement four wire switch.

I had the bulb burn out in a marshall style rocker just recently and i took it apart to find it wasn't the bulb that was bad, but one of the bulb's leads had broken. Soldered it back together which was a bit tough as small as it is, but it can be done. Not sure about the metal edges tho, as to disassemble it you have to pry the red lens out bending the edges as you do. So if that metal is just a trim that can be removed or if it will bend and can be bent back maybe it'll be ok. I dunno....never had a rocker with metal edge.

Well then.. I guess that explains that. I'll order a few of those plastic ones for future repairs. Thanks for the advise!
