    Gotcha, the new resistor is off a few mil off of the board so maybe that is what did the trick; I'll look out for that in the future!

    Is there any way to test for noisy resistors like that? Thanks

      Sometimes freeze spray or heat on the resistor will make the noise come or go, other than that, not really any tests that I know of.

        pulled and tested the resistor out of circuit ages ago and it tested spot on, 220k
        Value of a resistor rarely causes noise. Old Fender amps were made with 20% tolerance resistors even. But there is no test for a noisy resistor out of circuit.. Well not in what we would consider an amp repair shop. Maybe a lab.

        agree with g1, we have heat and cold in the shop for just such things.

            Only if you decide the only way to find noisy parts is by removing them to test.
            Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
