  • PV Classic 20 PT

From what I've read the power trans for a Peavey Classic 20 isn't available from them anymore?

Anyone find a decent replacement that's not too expensive?

All the trannies I have are too big or too high V, thought I had a Marshall 18w pt, but I must have used it.

    Thanks.

You are in some luck, it is a conventional transformer. Their larger amps use 15vDC supplies for tube heaters, and series wiring. This amp wants simple HV winding and a 6v winding. You need a bit over 2A for heaters. I forget the HV, but the 330v in the Classic 30 ought to work fine. SO about 235vAC.

PV has the Classic 30 PT.

Any difference between "old style" or "new style" ? Apparently they have two versions, sales rep didn't know the difference and since it's for a Classic 20, serial number probably wouldn't help.

Unless you are fixing a Classic 30, the question is moot, the Classic 20 won't use a C30 PT. The Classic 30 uses 24vAC for the power tube heaters, and 18vDC for the preamp tube heaters. I did not mean to imply the transformer would work in the C20, I meant to imply the voltage in the C30 would also work in the C20. SO find a transformer with p[lain old 6v heater winding and about 235v for the HV.

The main problem is finding something similar in size as there isn't much room with the speaker.

That's why I asked if someone had already found a decent replacement.

            That's $60 down the drain.

By the sounds of it you can use it if you add an additional small transformer to run the 6V heaters.

Mercury Magnetics has them, but you're going to pay for it.
It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

Yes, almost three times as much.

Hammond has ones that will work, I was hoping to find something closer in size to the small original.

It's for a bandmate, so he understands the deal.
Was trying to save him some money.

I'm not a fan of MM or their hype, but their advertised prices you find on line can be very misleading. If you find a good dealer you can probably get them for half that.
Dealers are not allowed to advertise lower prices than the incredibly high markup suggested by MM. They can however, sell for much less. Call around to various dealers to check pricing.
Also, from what I understand it's not hard to become a dealer.

                      Really?
Makes sense I guess. I'm a "dealer" for some other parts places (which you guys probably are too) and the pricing is quite different.

Thanks, I'll look for a local one.
