  • 5E3 tone pot strange behaviour

    Hi,

On my 5E3 the tone pot is acting funny: turned down all the way it rolls off all the highs as expected. At about "8" it has it's brightest setting. if I go up to 12 it loses some high end again but a mid boost sets in. Any explainations for this?

To brighten up the normal channel a bit I used a .022 coupling cap there but I left the .1 on the bright channel. Since the channels are interactive, could this coupling cap mismatch cause this?

    thanks!

Any other mods? eg 12AX7 in V1.
Yes I know everyone seems to use a 12AX7 but it's a much higher gain tube than the stock 12AY7 and weird things can happen with high gain.

No, I have a 12AY7 in V1. No other mods apart from the coupling cap value

        OK, sorry.
Is this the same over the control range of both channel volume pots?

Does the position of the other channel's volume control affect this?
