Looking for a 1Meg-A pot...

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 1 Meg-A pot to fit a Fender Red Knob amp (late 80's~early 90's). It a small sized pot (24mm, I think) PC mount (solder pins), solid D-shaft (to accommodate the red knob). If anyone has some of these or knows someone selling these, please let me know. With the amp I'm fixing, it doesn't adapt too well to other types of pots (space considerations) so I'm trying to find the exact item first.

Fender used a lot of these snap-in 16mm types both flatted and round shaft. Is it like this:

Likely long discontinued. They are 16mm pcb mount pots. The long(er) flatted shafts are the tricky part.

True that, every time I order flatted (D) shafts, the flat is always on the wrong side. Phooey!

I order round shaft pots & settle in for a long filing session.

Fender 0039053000 will probably work, you will have to cut the wings off. The taper may be different and the flatted part of the shaft may be upside down, in which case the numbers on the knob will not be correct.
The original 024663 is no longer available.

The one TimmyP listed above (026048) is with the push-pull switch.

You can disassemble, carefully, remove the bracket & reassemble. Beats cutting. Then the flat will probably still be on the wrong side . There's a reason these amps are known as "evil twins" whether designated formally or not. Like 2000 series Marshalls, they can sound good, but so much trouble.

The original poster said red knob amp not necessarily Twin. That's why I asked for a part number.

I know that we have a bunch of Fender pots in back stock, but some sort of description would be helpful to see if we have one.

024663 is 1M-A for red knob twin and red knob champ.

There are a whole line of solid state Fender amps with the same red knobs.

It's actually a reverb control pot for a Red Knob Champ 12. But it's been my experience that the pot can't tell what model amp it's in. Thanks, G1, I'll probably cut the wings off of one of those newer Fender pots (16mm, I stand corrected). I did contact Fender (first) and was told all those parts spares for Red Knob amps are long gone (like the LDRs).

P.S. - 52 Bill, if you've got one lurking in your back room, it's part # 024663 and is a 1M-A, PC mount, solder pins, with no (ground) side wings. I'd be happy to buy it from you if you have it. Here's what's actually printed on the pot in question: J 477Z 1M (ohm sign) A d
The 'D-shaft' is a regular solid shaft but with one side flatted slightly to accommodate the red knob so the knob mounts to the shaft one way and one way only.

A pot can't tell you what amp it is in, but knowing the amp tells us what part number it WANTS to have. And just because Fender doesn't have them any longer doesn;t mean they are not in stock in shops all over. Or at least here or there. Only way we can check our stock is with part number.

And I just looked at my inventory, I no longer have that part number... but I used to. Sorry.


Fender made D shaft pots pointing both directions, plus the red (and black) knobs also came in directions. Pots could be mounted over or under a circuit board on a panel. Thus reqquiring the 180 degree thing so the pots all faced the same way on the panel.

If you get one with the flat on the wrong side, mount it rotated however it needs to be, then connect it to the PCB with leads.
