  • What is it ? ? with Valco Reverb circuits (Harmony, Gretch, Supro, etc.)

My little brain is on overload... I have a Harmony 535 that uses the same circuits as above. NO reverb signal comes thru, However the recovery is working great, nice and loud. It seems I can't get enough drive thru the reverb driver xmer. But everything tests out OK ! I've spent 4hrs, jumping, by-passing, tracing the signal. It uses both halves of a 12ax7 for a driver. Hooked up an 8 ohm speaker to the drive circuit and got low volume sound. Put and ohmmeter on the pan and the coils are good. What's goin on?? I thought I'd check here with the pros....This is the second amp that has the same problem, I'm hoping someone can point to a fix....... Thx.......

I think you should get more than low volume out of the speaker. Sounds like the drive transformer could be bad. You could try the neon bulb tester on it.

The reverb pan may be "good", but is it the right type?
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

My comment above about a louder signal from driving the speaker was assuming this uses a low impedance input tank.
If it uses something else, it could be ok. Like Enzo said, it needs to have the right tank.
What is the number on the tank? Can you post a schematic for the amp?
Also, on some of these amps, the reverb will not work without the footswitch.

If the circuit is similar to Fenders then the plates of the 12AX7's going into the drive transformer should have a healthy 12 Vac signal.

Coming out of the drive transformer it should be almost double the input value.

I have a feeling that what kills these transformers is an open or intermittent connection to the reverb pan input transducer and /or an open transducer.
