  • Marshall TSL601 repair

This is a daft question so no laughing. I'd read the JCM2000 thread so I knew I'd have trouble with this as soon as I removed the cover and saw it was a TSL601. Guess what? I can't even remove the chassis from the cabinet! I've removed the four screws from the top plus two from each side and it's upside down on the bench so the chassis can't come crashing down but there's no chance of that because it won't budge! All I can do is wiggle it a bit. Is there a secret screw I've missed somewhere?

Have you removed the rear grille?

The chassis comes out the back.

Yes, I've removed the grille and centre wooden back panel. I'm pulling on the transformers from the back but it's not going anywhere.

The top edge of the faceplate is probably snagging on the aluminium sheet that is tacked to the 'ceiling' of the cabinet? I find it helps to lift the roof of the cabinet by way of the front, in order to get the faceplate past the sheet.

OK thanks, I'll try that. There is a gap between the aluminium sheet and the ceiling which could cause it to snag.

Also sometimes chassis stick to the tolex.

And my fave, the side screws pull the threaded part into the side wood, so you remove the bolt, but the chassis metal is still wedged into the wood.

Thanks Enzo. It's definitely stuck to the tolex on one side because I can see it pulling off the wood. I'll try sliding a thin filler knife between tolex and chassis to separate it and check that the inserts haven't been pulled out.

This comes from the friction of the tolex and will certainly end up partially torn. The origin must be in the metal sheets that hold the nuts and the pressure exerted by the screws on the sides.

The filler knife did the trick. It's out of the box. It was the tolex and aluminium sheet. Thanks for the suggestions

Now all I have to do is fix it. It's supposed to occasionally make a crackling sound. I heard it when it was in the box but of course it's not doing it out on the bench.
