  • Kustom K200A.4 footswitch

I have one of these amps without the footswitch.
Thanks to this thread: http://music-electronics-forum.com/t39376/ There's a lot information there that's been very helpful.

So, if understand this correctly, the effects, reverb and tremolo in channel one and boost and clipper in the second channel,
need the foot switch in order to be activated. Is this true?

IN the 'pre - 2" PDF some one had written that to activate 'the boost and clipper connect 2 & 3 to ground'.
My switch is not labeled with numbers. Instead they use the letters for pin numbers.
The problem I'm having is determining what gets connected to ground or whatever else. Some of the pins have 20vdc on them and I'm reluctant to start randomly connecting these pins. I did try connecting to ground the ones without voltage and nothing.
How can I test this amp's effect? Is there a wiring for a pedal?
Where is the footswitch in the schematic? J3 where the tech had written in the above?
Lot questions here, sorry. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    pete

I think i found the answer to my question here for the reverb and trem in this schematic on page 10
    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1Fx...?pli=1&rm=demo
    They are working, yay.
I bet the answer to the other switch connections is somewhere here.

Everything is there! nice. Page 11 has it, which the same as the attached pdfs. Only problem is I'm not sure theyre working. Should the brown and white be grounded?

Yes, they need to be grounded to turn on the effects. All of the Kustom A and B series amps used transistor switching for the FX, the difference being that in the A series amps the FX were normally off and need to be turned on with a footswitch and the B series the FX were normally on and need to be turned off with the footswitch.

The jack in your photo has been changed from the original 4-pin xlr. There is a fifth wire going to the jack, is this a ground?

Yes, this is a 9 pin xlr. But there are only 5 wires connected to it. One of them is ground, the center one.

Is it XLR or DIN? Looks too small to be XLR.

Not really knowing what type of connector it is, so here's a picture.

            DIN?

              Yup.

              9 pin circular DIN connector.

I think it is an 9 pin Amphenol.

All the effects work on channel 1 (in other words the left channel when facing the front of the unit). I thought the right side channel 2 had the boost and clipper effect and ch 1 reverb and trem.
Anyway I finally can hear all effects. The tremolo is very thumpy. I wonder if that can be tamed?

Also this would definitely need a footswitch to use the effects properly. Grounding them, as in hard wiring and using the controls doesn't work right. There's no way to turn off the clipper, like you can do with the reverb control.

That's the way the B-series amps work. The A's have all of the FX on one side, making the placement of the controls confusing.
