    Yes 50VAC being applied, but not "across." The resistor is dropping 35v. 35sqr/350 = 3.5watts. The solder isn't melting anymore.

    If that resistor was between 50vac and ground then your calculation wpuld apply.

      So when there are other components behind the resistor the pic doesn't work?
      So the amp is fixed now?

        Right. The other components end up in series with the resistor. He said the resistor has 35VAC across it, so there are 15VAC being dropped across some series resistance (or equivalent).

          Yes the 15v zeners and their parallel filter caps are in series with the 350ohm. Makes sense too: 50v minus 15v is 35v.
