Yes, I've used them. They do need to be attached to a massive heatsink + fan if you want to get 100W continuous.

Here is a schematic of the dummy load I made. In the actual implementation I used a combination of series & parallel resistors to get higher power dissipation. It's switchable for 16/8/4/2 ohms.
