  • Balanced. No tip, just ring.

Got a newer EV powered speaker in. It has the xlr/balanced 1/4 in combo input jacks. Ch 1 only the ring works...tip produces no signal. Ch2 works. I'm thinkin it might be the jack...but possibly the input opamp.

As you probably know EV provides zero support. Any educated guesses on what could be the cuplrit before I go tearing this panel off? I believe a balanced input feeds +/- of an opamp which combines signals and cancels line noise/hum...much like an output transformer or line level signal transformer in a DI box. It puts signals in phase and noise out of phase.

Often, there are low value resistors from jack to op amp circuit- used more or less as a fuse if a ground loop or excessive signal is applied. Follow the input jack pins and see if you find an open resistor.

Have you tried it with an XLR ? My guess is the xlr/6.5 is mechanically damaged.

Thanks guys. Customer didn't wanna spend $ and decided to pursue a warranty claim.

The xlr did not work either.

Good to know for future reference!

I don't know model #, but I have seen two new EV's lately from the same customer that went back for warranty replacement. And both of them ran very hot, no fans.
It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....
