  • Help identifying old cap/resistor?

This was pulled out of an old Danelectro amp.

Is this a cap or resistor?
The color markings are (black, red, red, red, silver).

Haven't been able to find any info on this or a schematic for this Dano.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Does it do anything if you try to measure resistance or capacitance with a multimeter?

What does DVM or cap tester tell you?

Edit: You beat me to it, glebert!

Resistance was around 1Meg. I'm pretty sure its a cap. I don't have a cap tester.

Analog meter? if so it should rise then back down on the needle if it's a cap and not shorted.

IF resistance is about 1M then it´s probably a resistor.
No cap, even leaky, would show 1M under the feeble voltage applied by a multimeter, even if it leaks like Niagara Falls under a couple hundred volts.

In any case, where did it come from? (in detail or show a picture).

All components go from point A to point B so please define them.

What part of the circuit did it come from.? I might say an inductor but that resistance is pretty high. If it's a wide band silver I think that means military grade.Just something I'm learning myself. I will be posting about some unknown components I'm seeing in a Flot-A-Tone I have.

It looks like a ceramic cap to me.

When you measured 1 meg, were you holding your ohm meter probes on the wire leads with your fingers? You need to touch teh probe tips to the component leads, but not touch them with your fingers.

                  black, red, red, red, silver

                  Is it 2200p 10% then?

Is there a brown before that black? ALmost looks like one in the photo. And a code makes more sense without a zero to start.

I really had to get this under a bright light. There is a brown stripe.

So it's (brown, black, red, red, red, silver)

                      What value would that be?

                        I'd be thinking 1000pf.
